San Francisco, CA (February 17, 2021) – A pedestrian walking on Interstate 80 in San Francisco died on Tuesday night after being struck by multiple vehicles, officials with the California Highway Patrol said.
The initial report came in at 11:10 p.m. and noted that a pedestrian was struck on the eastbound Bryant Street on-ramp, located at the left side of the freeway just before the Bay Bridge. The pedestrian was struck at the left side of eastbound I-80, just west of the bridge, by a car that did not stop. The injured pedestrian was then run over by multiple vehicles, witnesses said.
The person was pronounced dead by San Francisco Fire Department responders and local paramedics at 11:23 p.m., troopers with the CHP said. The registered owner of the car that initially hit the pedestrian was contacted by phone but said she had sold the vehicle three months ago. Officers are still investigating the accident at this time and have not released further details.
