Oakland, CA (May 3, 2021) – A 95-year-old man was hit by a minivan while crossing a street on Sunday morning in the Chinatown area.

Officers said that the man was in critical condition as of Monday. The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. at the intersection of Tenth Street and Jackson Street. The man, an Oakland resident, was walking westbound in the marked crosswalk when he was hit by a silver Toyota Sienna traveling northbound on Jackson Street. Investigators are trying to determine whether the driver or the pedestrian had the green light. The driver of the Toyota, a 62-year-old Oakland resident, was not injured and cooperated with investigators.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call traffic investigators. The investigation is ongoing.

Per reports from authorities, the incident occurred in the 1800 block of Arnold Drive. Officers were called to the scene around 8:00 a.m. and found an adult male suffering from serious injuries. The cyclist, now identified as 65-year-old Russell Hofeling, was transported via ambulance to the John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek but was later pronounced dead.

San Francisco, CA (April 6, 2021) – An elderly pedestrian was killed after being hit by a driver in the South of Market neighborhood on Saturday, April 3.

Authorities with the San Francisco Police Department say that the 78-year-old male victim was crossing the intersection of Third Street and Folsom Street at approximately 1:00 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver, later identified as Othman Ahmedmohamed Alghazali, fled the scene.

An off-duty SFPD officer witnessed the collision and immediately rendered aid to the victim. Additional medical and law enforcement crews were dispatched, SFPD Officer Adam Lobsinger said.

The victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance but later succumbed to his life-threatening injuries.

Alghazali later returned to the scene and was identified as the suspect, Lobsinger said. He is now being charged.

San Jose, CA (April 5, 2021) – A hit-and-run driver killed a woman in a wheelchair who was crossing Monterey Road late Thursday night, April 1, according to reports from the San Jose Police Department.

The deadly collision was reported around 11:35 p.m. At that time, a woman crossing Curtner Avenue near the county fairgrounds was hit by a southbound car that fled the scene soon after. The woman was taken to a local hospital via ambulance but she later died from her injuries, police said. Her name was not immediately released.

Police said the driver who hit her was driving a white 2004-2010 Mercedes CLS coupe that should have visible damage to the front and left side of the car.
